My Students
Do you have a love for words? My students do. However, with the lack of dictionaries in my room, my students are forced listening to power points of words instead of experiencing language for themselves.
My students are 12th grade students who thrive on freedom of expression.
They are about to graduate, yet are still formulating their own ideas and beliefs. They are suburban students surrounded by the Military on one side and farmland on the other. Many are involved in extra-curricular activities and many also have jobs.
My Project
I have requested dictionaries for my students so they may engage in their learning and really experience words the way they are supposed to be experienced. These dictionaries will enrich my students' lives by giving them the chance to look up their own words.
Currently, my students obtain their vocabulary from power points that I create.
This is very complacent. By having them look up their own words, not only do they learn how to find information, they also engage in their learning, rather than absorbing it passively.
