My Students

Orson Scott Card said, "Everyone walks past a thousand story ideas every day. The good writers are the ones who see at least five or six of them." I have the extreme pleasure of working with aspiring young writers, poets, and screenwriters and have done so for the past four years. Every year, a new group of energized middle school writers find their way into my classroom.

This year, I have 36 students inspired to become the next generation of published story tellers.

Several of them are eighth graders and preparing to audition into the focused and challenging high school program offered on our campus. Within both the middle school and high school programs, students have opportunities to have their works published on campus, produced by our acting students, or even submitted to local, regional, and national contests and publications.

My Project

In order to be creative writers, young students must be voracious readers. The library in my Creative Writing room provides students to discover authors from various genres and from all parts of the globe. However, there is still space on the shelves for more.

By adding these classic and current works to our available in-class library, students will see the power of stories and use the inspiration and lessons found in these pages to tell their own tales.

By following Artemis Fowl or Percy Jackson on their latest adventures, a student could plant the seeds for the next great series that will touch the lives of generations to come.
