Words Have Power

Help me give my students a variety of novels to choose from for our First Chapter Friday reading activity. The three-ring binders will improve my students' executive function by giving them a place to organize any handouts.

My Project

I will be a first-year Intervention Specialist for the 2025/2026 school year. I am excited to begin my journey with a group of fresh-faced 7th graders. I have been informed that my exceptional students do not read at grade level. As an avid reader, this concerns me. I understand the correlation between reading and writing.

I am focusing my attention on increasing literacy in my student population.

I aim to provide my diverse population with a range of high-interest books that will encourage them to start and complete a novel.

I will be introducing the concept of First Chapter Friday to my students, but to start this literacy project, I need a classroom library, student binders and rolling cart. Students will have the opportunity to summarize what they have read and decide if they would like to continue reading the novel or pick another selection.
