Wordless Wonderland

My students need copies of 16 wordless picture books by authors such as David Wiesner and Istvan Banyai.

I am a fourth grade teacher in a high needs school district. I am looking for every opportunity to help our classroom library grow.

Often struggling readers have trouble grasping important comprehension strategies and they have trouble talking about their thinking when reading a story. A wordless picture book would enable the reader to practice strategic thinking without the added responsibility of decoding. Wordless books provide a rich, authentic place for readers of all ages to rehearse strategic thinking before moving on to more challenging text.

My students need 16 wordless picture books. When we read wordless picture books it's easy to be aware of our own thinking. No text is present to get in the way! When the launching process with wordless books is complete, learners will confidently enter the world of text with strategic language in place.
