My Students

This is my third year teaching students in a 1st grade inclusion classroom in a low income inner city in Massachusetts. My students live in an area with very high poverty rates and all of them receive Title I funding for free breakfast and lunches. Last year I made the big switch to first grade and it has been life changing! First graders are the best humans! They can brighten the worst of days and bring constant smiles all day long. I am proud to say that I LOVE my job! I thrive to keep my students engaged and to feed their love of learning. I feel so privileged to teach and shape these young minds at such a critical time in their life where a love of learning can bloom.

My Project

Now that we are back to in person learning, my goal is to make my ELA centers as engaging as possible. These fun, colorful and new word work activities will keep my students motivated and excited to independently practice their phonics skills learned during our whole group lessons. Word work and centers are such an integral part of learning phonics in first grade. These centers and word work allow my students to master the various skills we are learning in first grade using manipulatives while being reinforced working side by side with their peers. Each day, students will follow up their whole group lesson with choices of these stations. This will allow my staff to keep monitor work stations while I pull small groups of students for intervention.
