My Project

My reading intervention students are currently working below their grade level on reading skills. They need hands-on materials to help improve their reading readiness skills. Following the science of reading, phoneme-grapheme mapping is an instructional activity where students link the 'sound' part of a word to the 'letter' part of a word. This skill is crucial for students to make the jump from phonemic awareness to phonics. The mobile whiteboard, reading rods, alphabet chips and other reading resources will provide my students with the opportunity to practice this skill with excitement and ease. The goal is to get my students to become word-mapping wizards. These trays and magnetic letter discs are sure to be a fun and interactive way for my struggling students to develop letter-sound connections.

According to Allison McDonald, "If we want our students to be better at a skill, we have to give them the opportunity to use and practice that skill." This is supported by the science of reading research and it is incorporated into my reading intervention classroom daily.
