My Students
My students want to become Word Gurus! They need dictionaries to help them get there!
I have 20 students, from various income levels, at a brand new elementary school.
My students are smart, eager to learn, and very hard working! We are all new to our school so we are working very hard to create the best learning environment possible for our kiddos!
My Project
Reference material skills are essential in 3rd grade, and we use dictionaries several times a week. Dictionaries are the most beneficial references material I can use to teach various skills, such as definitions/word meanings, parts of speech, syllables, and synonyms. We use them for our weekly vocabulary word, any new words we come across in our curriculum, for various games/races, and to learn new words. I need each of my students to have a dictionary of their own to work with, although we also use them for partner and group work.
I am certain that my students will be more successful having had a dictionary by their side in third grade.
This year, we will build the foundation that they have to stand on going forward. Strong vocabulary skills will lead to successes in other areas, such as reading and writing.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
