Woodwinds and Brass and Drums... Oh My!!

My students need reeds, new mouthpieces and ligatures, cork grease, valve oil and replacement strings for violins. We also need a small wireless speaker for my classroom.

My Students

Did you ever try playing a clarinet with a broken reed or a chipped mouthpiece? Or a violin with a broken string? Or a trumpet with valves that don't move? These are daily occurrences in the lives of my students, because these are items their families cannot afford!

My student attend a K-6 school that is in a large urban district with a 100% poverty rate.

Many of them come from single parent homes and some live with other family members because their parents are incarcerated. The families want the best for their children but have a difficult time making ends meet, let alone paying for school supplies like reeds or strings. The children are bright and energetic and very excited about learning how to play musical instruments.

My Project

My students will not lose any instructional or home practice time because of not having a reed or replacement string. Also, the new mouthpieces will help them to have more success getting a beautiful sound out of the school owned clarinets they play on.

Being able to continue their musical instruction uninterrupted is essential to their success, and having reeds is a necessity!

Having new cases for old clarinets will really make them feel better about carrying home their instruments to practice daily.
