My Project
As a dedicated gifted education teacher, I am committed to fostering my students’ socio-emotional wellness through engaging, hands-on activities. This project seeks funding to provide Woobles beginner crochet kits for my students, integrating crochet as a therapeutic and skill-building tool within our classroom. These kits will support students in developing patience, focus, resilience, and emotional regulation while engaging in a creative, confidence-building activity.
Many gifted students struggle with stress management, self-confidence, and perseverance.
Adolescence is a critical period for socio-emotional development, and 5th and 6th graders often experience increased academic pressure, social challenges, and emotional fluctuations. Research shows that crafting activities, such as crochet, can enhance mindfulness, reduce anxiety, and improve overall well-being. By introducing Woobles beginner crochet kits into our curriculum, our goal is to provide a structured yet enjoyable outlet for students to express themselves, develop fine motor skills, and build a sense of accomplishment.
This project will provide each 5th and 6th-grade student with a Woobles beginner crochet kit, ensuring equitable access to this beneficial activity. The program will be incorporated into our weekly socio-emotional learning (affective skill) sessions.
The project will be incorporated during the spring state testing season to help students cope with the stress. By incorporating crochet into our gifted curriculum, we anticipate improved emotional regulation and stress reduction, increased self-esteem and confidence as students complete projects, and enhanced problem-solving and perseverance through learning a new skill, while strengthening peer relationships through shared experiences and collaboration.
