Wonderful Writing Experiences

My project needs a digital camera with a case and printer.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Hawkins's classroom raised $365

This project is fully funded

Bringing out the Writer in anyone is possible. I teach a fourth grade class of fifteen students in a rural community school. All except one of my students receive free lunch. My students lack motivation when it comes to writing. According to what I see in class and what tests reflect, writing is an area of concern.

Motivating my students to write is my goal. I plan to do this by making my students photographers and providing them with photographs that will spark their interests. As photographers, students will be assigned the camera for a day. Throughout the day, they will take pictures of scenes that interest them. They will develop pictures on the printer, laminate, and organize them into a photo album. The will use their snapshots to create essay writings. They will also publish and share their writings orally and in our newsletters. When my students were given a photo to write about, they had a lot to say. Even the students who can't ever think of anything to say wrote a lot. I will capture the students in various learning experiences. They will use the photographs to prompt them to write descriptions, explanations, narratives, and persuive writing pieces.

With the digital camera and printer the students will have immediate and constant access to capture and print meaningful images. This will excite the children and make them eager to write about and share what they see. The camera case will provide safe storage for the camera while traveling through the school.

With your help, we can show every child in my class that they can write. Once they realize that they can write, they will begin developing a more positive attitude about writing and possibly learn to enjoy it.
