My Students
My students need materials that they can work with independently to review and practice skills that we have learned while I am teaching my small differentiated groups.
I teach 21 kindergarten and first grade students in a suburban school.
I have 2 English Language Learners, 2 Gifted students, 11 kindergarteners and 10 first graders. They are hard workers who are eager to attack any challenge that I put before them.
My Project
We use a method of instruction called Workshop Way to meet the needs of all our learners. In order to do this, we have several "jobs" that the kids who are not in small instructional groups must do. These jobs include reading, some writing, phonics, and games. I need the plays for beginning readers books so that I can reading with my groups and practice plays and dialogs. I need the learning mats for the kids to practice skills independently. The file folder games will also provide them with valuable practice of skills that we have learned in our small groups. Having these materials will provide hours of great practice, review, and small group work.
This project is important to us because I believe that it is my charge to meet each leaner where they are and take them as far as I can in the short time I have them.
If I have these materials, then I can plan appropriate small groups, and meaningful practice "jobs" for my students.
