This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Creative, competitive, driven, and intelligent are just a few words to describe the students at my school. Our students come from various economic statuses and ethnic backgrounds, however, they are all here to learn.

As the school librarian at an academy for gifted and talented students, I see over 450 students every week that need to have their creativity cultivated.

They all come to school ready to learn and be successful.

Our school strives to create an environment conducive to all learning styles and a safe place for everyone. All staff believe in our students and know that they can do anything they set out to do.

My Project

“I think there should be a rule that everyone in the world should get a standing ovation at least once in their lives.” This is one of my favorite quotes from the book WONDER by R. J. Palacio. Our students face challenges every day, be it economic, academic, or stress. Oftentimes, the first smile they see is from an educator at our school. At our campus, we strive to teach our students to be compassionate learners that will grow to be compassionate adults. The book WONDER will help us reach that goal. The book tells of the challenges that is faced by the main character, as well as his peers.

The students here really enjoy participating in novel studies, and they get very excited about reading and discussing books together.

The fifth grade teacher and I would like to collaborate on a novel study that the students can relate to. WONDER is the perfect novel to help us reach our goals. The students will be engrossed in their reading and the projects we have planned.

Your generous donation will provide my students with great discussions as well as real world examples. It will teach them that kindness goes a long way.
