My Students

"Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." Many have attributed this quote to William Butler Yeats. Each day, I strive to foster an excitement for learning in my students. My plan is to light a fire for writing with a beautiful writing center.

I teach all day Kindergarten in a high-need community.

My classroom is hands- and brains-on, and we love to learn from one another and through music. We love to sing and dance. My goal is to inspire my students to believe in themselves and become lifelong learners.

My Project

Writing opens the door to a world of self-expression. If my students can become proficient and confident writers, they will possess skills necessary to succeed in life. Not only do writing skills promote success throughout all content areas, they also provide students with a strategy for coping with life's obstacles. I am requesting a beautiful, child-sized writing center for our classroom. I would fill the center with various writing tools and types of paper. Students would visit the writing center daily during free-choice centers. Creating a warm and inviting writing space with creative resources will inspire students to express themselves through writing.
