Wonderful Literacy Practice

My students need these journals as a way to enhance their reading and writing skills, and to continue to show acceptance for everyone.

My Students

My classroom is made up 4th/5th graders who absolutely love to read. I am always looking for more material to encourage their love of reading, while deepening their critical thinking skills, vocabulary, and comprehension. The school district that I teach in has a low income rate of over 70%, as well as a mobility rate of more than 30%. a book that had had a huge impact on my kids is Wonder. This book teaches acceptance and kindness towards all and my students can't get enough of this book. The Wonder journal is something my kids haven't seen and would be thrilled to work with.

My Project

All 5th grade students have read the inspirational book, Wonder. During this class read aloud, so many wonderful and powerful conversations were had over this book, and students continue to reference this book in regards to other books. Many students have stated that this book has definitely had an impact on their lives.

My students need a class set of a Wonder journal, which will help them work on their literacy skills, combined with a book they love.

Having this journal would bring more excitement and motivation to students' reading and writing. This journal would also serve as a constant reminder about being the good in the world and accepting everyone, despite any differences.
