This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a Title I school. My students are from low-income families and receive free or reduced cost breakfast and lunch throughout the year. Many of my students come from a Spanish speaking background.

My students are diverse, eager learners who are seeking to understand their curriculum through multiple approaches such as texts, technology, and more.

Their learning should be organic and also embedded in real life experiences. The tools we have chosen together will help this to become a reality.

My Project

Word study centers are very important in second grade. The English language is a difficult language to speak and write. My ENL students who are learning the English language need reinforcements to help them succeed. After each skill is taught the students will receive extra time to complete each task. Hands on activities makes learning fun and exciting. These centers gear the students to do something different. These activities also encourage the students to work together in pairs or groups to build vocabulary and social skills. The magnetic board is a great tool to work in small group time. While working with only six students at a time the students are able to use the magnetic letters to create words and sentences.
