Wonder! The Adventure into Reading

Help me give my students the reading experiences they deserve while showing them that they can achieve despite the obstacles that may be in their way. This includes copies of Wonder.

My Students

My students are kids that come from variations of backgrounds and income levels. However, the majority of my kids are not that well off. And they may not say it, but I know that many are struggling. And this struggle translates into the classroom. And I don't want that struggle to continue.

Despite their obstacles, these scholars still have to learn and I still have to reach them.

Thus, I understand that I can't let their personal issues get in their way. I also understand that I can't leave them behind to wallow in the culture of treadmill lifestyles that will leave them running in place. Therefore, I plan on having a project that will increase their love of reading.

My Project

This project will teach my kids the idea of tolerance and appreciation. The story Wonder is all about tolerance. And tolerance is something that can assist with students having a better understanding of their own social emotional learning. Treating people good, no matter how different they are, is something that society (as a whole) would be better off understanding. And this story does just that.

This project will also assist my kids in reading rigorous, realistic texts that they can easily connect to.

The connection to the young protagonist (August Pullman) will easily draw in students that want a better understanding of how it feels to be an outsider. Also, the students can makes text to self connections due to the strength of August's family. Plus, the sheer perserverence that he displays throughout the book will be a shining example of coming of age.
