Help me give my students The WONDER book collection. By sharing Auggie's story and sharing their different perspectives. Students will gain insight into others' thoughts and emotions; and see life through each other's eyes.
I teach students who have a mild intellectual disability at a high school in Newport News, Virginia. My students are my inspiration! They love hands-on, active, engaging projects, and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances to grow socially, emotionally, personally, and academically. Unfortunately, our school does not have a budget for my student needs. As a result, I turn to different donor sources to assist me with meeting my students' needs and interests.
The goal of this project is to teach compassion through perspective.
I want my students to learn how their behavior and emotions are perceived by others and for them to see the world through the eyes of others. This project is to give my students the WONDER book collection. These books will be paired with interactive activities and direct instruction to teach compassion through perspective. The document camera will display the texts as the teacher and students take turns reading. The students will use the camcorder to record their perspectives and interviews and share the recording with their peers. Students will have multiple opportunities to interact with their peers recording.
