My Students

I am a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school district; my students (special education, general education, and gifted students) are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with a creative and meaningful learning experience.

My students are a group of inquisitive and creative third graders who approach life and new concepts enthusiastically.

Due to the lack of materials and equipment, my students sometimes are not able to put their fabulous ideas into action. My goal is to help each student reach their potential for learning and to help them grow academically. Each child in my classroom is different, and it can be challenging to adjust my learning plan to fit every student. To achieve this goal, I would like to create a functional environment which meets the learning style of every student in my class. I want to provide a place that is safe, healthy and comfortable to work and learn in that makes each student look forward to coming to class every day.

My Project

To begin our STEM Role Model series, I want to highlight the amazing women STEM Pioneers I think my students should know about such as Tu Youyou (Chemist and Educator), Jane Goodall (Primatologist, Anthropologist and Conservationist), Mary Anning (Palaeontologist) and Katherine Johnson (Mathematician and Physicist). These STEM role models all had a hunger for knowledge, deep curiosity, and worked relentlessly to make these important discoveries happen. The books Women in Science and Girls Think of Everything will dive into the lives of these STEM sheros that will inspire my students and ignite their inner STEM drive, just like Blocks Rock! does!

Blocks Rock!

has been scientifically proven to improve skills critical for STEM Learning. Blocks Rock! is a STEM tool activity to inspire my students. Blocks Rocks! is a structured block play that will improve my students STEM skills. The blocks play is stated to have a significant impact on mental rotation and spatial reasoning when compared to a board game. In addition, a report found that students with higher spatial reasonings abilities will have a higher likelihood of furthering their education and future careers in STEM according to Blocks Rocks!
