My Students
My students are a diverse group of learners with many different needs. They come from all sorts of economic, social, and racial backgrounds. On top of this, my students are a variety of ages, spanning from 5-9 years old. In a diverse, multi-age classroom like ours, we provide opportunities for learners to constantly interact with others that our different than themselves. Adding several reading mentors who read with us weekly, and field trips to senior citizen community centers monthly, we have a truly inter-generational approach to teaching our kids!
My Project
While my students are diverse in their backgrounds and ages, they are all diverse in their needs. Where some 5-9 year olds are able to sit still for 30 minutes at a time, working non-stop without being distracted or needing to move, many other students cannot work like this. Many of my students, especially those with Attention Deficit Disorder have trouble focusing as they have an intrinsic desire to move their bodies. With the addition of these stools into my classroom, students who have trouble focusing have a place where they can work and keep their bodies active at the same time. The stools are quiet and subtle, so do not distract other learners!
