Wobbling Around in Kindergarten

Help me give my students wobble stools, wobble seat cushions, stools, and a new table to create more opportunities for flexible seating and learning within the classroom.

My Students

Do you remember your excitement when you went to Kindergarten every day? My students come in every morning excited and ready for a full day of learning. This learning is rarely at their desks. Let's be honest, what 5 or 6 year old wants to sit at a desk all day to learn? I think we could all agree on none!

My students love to move around, explore, and be actively engaged in any work they are doing.

Every child in my class loves learning; however, the way they learn best varies by child. I incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, flexible seating, and learning options to ensure my students' needs are met each and every day! I have seen so much growth from when my students entered my classroom on the first day of school until now. One thing that hasn't changed is their love for learning!

My Project

There are so many children who struggle with sitting still while completing their work. That doesn't mean they are not listening or that they are trying to break the rules. It is simply just too hard for them to stay put. These children cannot control their movement. They need something to help them get their wobbles out while doing their work. I have decided to help not only my children who struggle with this but all of my students.

Every child should have the chance to get their fidgets out throughout the day.

I want my students to have the opportunity to do this through more flexible seating options. My students will be able to use the new table and wobble stools to work on their writing during Daily 5. My students will be using the stools when they are working with the teacher one-on-one or during small groups. Lastly, students will have the option to use a wobble seat cushion on the rug, a chair, or on the floor at any point during the day.

These flexible seating options will not only help my students who have difficulty sitting still but all of my students. Studies have proven how effective movement is for young children. Movement activates the brain in ways that sitting still never can! These materials improve student learning and engagement thus allowing for even more learning to occur!
