My Students
My classroom is made up of 12 1st and 2nd grade students with special needs. The disabilities include autism, ADHD, emotional disturbance, speech language impairment, and specific learning disorder. Every day, my students show up ready to learn and grow. Academics and social skills do not come easy for them. My students are hard working individuals looking to be just like their general education peers.
Even though my students are labeled with a disability, they have so many abilities that should be celebrated.
The boys and girls in my class have wild imaginations, love for their friends, and positive attitudes. They can create elaborate stories and solve word problems. Unfortunately, sometimes their need for sensory input or regulation interferes with their ability to learn. With a little extra patience and support, my students are able to meet their goals.
My Project
My students need help regulating their body. Often times, my students distract themselves when they fidget in their seat, play with their pencils, or bounce around the classroom. They either need to get their energy out or they are seeking sensory input from their environment. K' Motion stools are the perfect solution for my students' needs!
K'Motions stools help students with special needs appropriately move their bodies in order to stay focused on their academic assignment.
Rather than be distracted, the rounded bottom of the stool allows my students to constantly move their body at the table without distracting themselves or their peers. Wobbling on the stool gives my students the sensory input that they are seeking and helps calm their body down so that they can work on their math or language arts assignments.
