This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My goal for each student is to have them grow one year academically from where they start out in my classroom. One of the biggest challenges I face is helping my students with ADD and ADHD focus. These students need an outlet for their excess energy so they can concentrate on their learning.
We are a Title 1 school.
The students come from a very diverse cultural and socioeconomic background. The students take pride in doing their best. This class is very kind and considerate of others. They love sharing their experiences with each other.
Our school has adopted "Action Based Learning" which is a program that believes students should be moving while they are learning. Research has shown that adding movement to the classroom helps students grow new brain cells. The students remember more, have better focus, and a healthier brain and body.
My Project
How would you feel if you had to sit in a hard plastic chair for 4 hours without getting up? Most adults can't event do that, but yet we are asking our students to do that. Just imagine if you had ADD. Our class schedule has us in our classroom from 7:45 to 11:45 everyday before we have a break. This is very very hard for a second grader. The Wobble Chairs that I am requesring would give the students an outlet for some of that energy, while still allowing them to focus on their learning.
