My rising 2nd Graders at are my students that were impacted by the COVID pandemic in 2020-2022. It was the time when these students were on their Online Distance Learning. The unprecedented shutdown of classroom learning caused undue stress, low levels of social inclusion and low satisfaction with school for many — and mental health issues. It was also a traffic overload in online education platforms. This was the time when there were huge learning gaps in public school education.
As I stepped into the classroom as a new Math teacher, I am taking the challenge to work hard with these kids in the classroom in a positive learning environment believing that every student can learn.
I have requested wobble chairs for those students that need to get their wiggles out in order to focus on their learning. Some of the other resources I have requested include a class set of calculators, a manipulatives toolbox to help with hands-on math learning, floor puzzles, and math games.
