I want to provide my students with seating options in my classroom to allow them to move while remaining focused and at their desks. I believe in setting high expectations for students, both academically and behaviorally, and my third graders meet those expectations more effectively with a wobble chair.
With COVID-19 and distance learning, students had the flexibility to get up and move around their homes as needed.
Now that we are back, face-to-face, this can be challenging.
Wobble chairs will allow my students to make the right choice for themselves while taking control of their learning environment.
Colleagues who have these wobble chairs in their classrooms report that students remain on task longer because of their controlled freedom of movement. Students think and learn differently, so we should provide different seating options to accommodate their needs.
Wobble chairs are an alternative to traditional seating—giving kids a full range of movement and the stability they need to wobble without tipping over!
In addition to wobble chairs, my students will benefit from reading books from Alaska’s Battle of the Books list for 3rd and 4th graders. Having these books available to all students will help increase comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency. It will also help students who participate in the Battle of the Books be prepared for the competition.
