About My Students
Malichi and Alan are 9th graders who will be leading this project. They are both kind, enthusiastic, and extremely energetic Special Needs students who love learning science.
Many of my students struggle with learning tasks that require sustained focus. In particular the need to sometimes sit in class can be excruciatingly difficult, even though the actual lesson might be something they want to positively participate in. These students had seen these wobble chairs in other classrooms and thought they might be a perfect solution to the challenge of remaining in their seats.
When my students sit in chairs that allow for more movement they won't feel the need to get up and away from group work. This allows them to stay positively engaged as a team member in the group for longer periods of time. This extended engagement will give them confidence that they have something valuable to contribute.
In Their Own Words
We are tired of sitting in chairs when we have to do group work or take notes in class! Mr. K lets us stand if we can't sit, but it makes it hard to write and be a part of a group when you are standing and everybody else is sitting. We have seen wobble chairs in other classrooms and think they could help us stay in our seats when we need to do work.
We are happy about being leaders for this project! If we can show that we can sit in our seats and work in our groups, other kids in the class won't get annoyed so much by us always walking around.
This project will get wobble chairs for our classroom. With these new chairs, we can move around while still staying at our seats and working well with others to learn Science. I think our behaviors will improve and other kids will not get so mad at us because we will be at our place in the classroom doing work.
