Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach 2nd grade and despite the many brain breaks and movement to and from the rug, 2nd graders are still expected to sit attentively. This is very difficult for your average 7-8 year old but even more challenging for gifted students or students with attention struggles.
Our school is 95% free and reduced lunches with a variety of ethnic groups.
Our heavy focus is on literacy and providing a guaranteed and viable curriculum that will ensure student success beyond high school regardless of ethnicity, ability, or socioeconomic status. These are justified priorities however that leaves little funds for specialty purchases like wobble chairs. These chairs would make a significant impact for years to come because they are sturdy, resilient chairs.
My Project
Students will be able to maintain focus longer while strengthening their core which leads to improved writing and ultimately success. These chairs will give students the opportunity to move even when they are expected to be sitting without distracting others. I anticipate increases in writing and overall academics.
Donations to this project will provide effective learning resources that would otherwise be unprovided for.
Our school's funds are used for many vital resources, unfortunately outstanding resources like these amazing chairs are not provided for.
