This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This coping skills workshop aims to bring about topics that are important to 8th-grade students as they begin to transition into high school. This workshop aims to bring about awareness and the tools for students to learn about their current coping skills, acts of self-care, views on wellness, and how to integrate healthy coping skills into their day-to-day experiences. This workshop hopes to promote positive youth development by bringing awareness, education, and life skills that will positively influence their decision-making as they transition into young adulthood.

The workshop aims to target an estimated 300 8th-grade students throughout their physical education period.

The supplies requested will be extremely beneficial for the implementation of the workshop and for keeping students engaged. Both the Pop IT fidget toys and stress balls will be takeaway gifts for participation in the workshop. Balloons will be utilized for an interactive activity where they represent specific stressors; students will work on their ability to manage several "stressors" at once, while also demonstrating the importance of asking for help. Pencils, paper, and name tags will be utilized for printing wellness plans and surveys and identifying each student by name.

The overall hope for this workshop is for our students to gain an understanding of social-emotional learning and awareness of their well-being during a crucial period of their development. The goal is to promote healthy individuals who can engage in responsible decision-making, can self-regulate in times of emotional distress, and know how to foster healthy interpersonal relationship skills.
