Hello. I am a second grade teacher in a low income charter school in Northern California.
Every school year my students come back from summer ready for another exciting year. However, they do not always show up with the supplies necessary to succeed. How can children learn without such simple supplies as pencils and paper?
I am requesting pencils, writing paper, crayons, a pencil sharpener and markers. These supplies are very simple, but obviously necessary. Rather than scramble the first week back at the store, it would be wonderful to start the year with new supplies ready to be handed out. You can always tell those students that do not have the new supplies. They seem to start the new year feeling inadequate. This is no way for a child to feel ever, and especially not the first day in a new class.
You will make it possible for my students to start the school year with everything they need to succeed. A child should not be penalized because his or her family can not afford to buy school supplies. My students are very deserving and work very hard. Even if this project is not funded until mid-year it will help with supplies for after Christmas, when supplies seem to somehow disappear. Thank you so much for your consideration. I greatly appreciate your support.
