Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are K-5th grade students! They are both general education and special education students and they are made up of English Language Learners and students whose first language is English. We are a very diverse community.
My students have me for a 45 minute Computer Science and/ or Character Ed class at least once per week.
My students are eager to learn and are making progress each week.
The students are highly motivated by hands-on activities and project based learning. Currently, due to social distancing guidelines, computer is on the go in their classroom rather than in the computer lab.
My Project
"Don't let anyone rob you of your imagination, your creativity, or your curiosity. It's your place in the world; it's your life. Go on and do all you can with it, and make it the life you want to live," Mae Jemison.
An Oculus VR Headset will bring a great experience on my students' lives.
Students will be able to travel to space in virtual reality and view Mars Perseverance Rover in action through videos while learning about space and Mae Jemison. This VR set will allow them to transport to various parts of the world without leaving the classroom.
In addition to our space unit, my students will have an opportunity to learn virtually about the world around them. The VR Sets will allow my students to go on virtual field trips during the Pandemic.
The VR Sets will allow my students to have more fun while learning about their world and multicultural places around them.
They will be able to safely travel outside the classroom and their homes safely right from the computer lab. Students will be able to access their own interest and lessons will be tailored to each students learner variability as they research topics as a whole class and small groups and then work with the Oculus independently. The VR Sets will aid learning in every subject across the curriculum.
