it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My second graders are enthusiastic, inquisitive little human beings! They come to school so energized and ready to learn, especially with each other. During the day they engage in whole-class lessons, small group lessons, social emotional learning activities, independent work and brain breaks. Their classroom is their second home and a place where they should feel safe and comfortable. This year, one of the most important spaces in our classroom, our meeting area, needs a little TLC. We need a comfortable rug to gather on.
A classroom meeting area is the heart of the classroom.
It's where students learn, connect, discover and discuss. It's where teachers can bring their students together, as a classroom community to do so many things, from social emotional learning to read aloud to modeling a writing piece or solving a math problem. It can be a quiet and cozy place where students can delve into different worlds during independent reading or a calm down space for a student that needs it. Most importantly, it gives a designated place for teacher and students to gather as a family and listen to each other, respect each other's perspective, consider each other's work and share belly laughs (and occasional tears). The possibilities are endless!
