Wishes for Fishes!

My students need 5 table top aquariums- including stackable aquariums, sand/gravel, aquatic plants, aquatic animals, and care supplies.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. V.'s classroom raised $337

This project is fully funded

I teach a kindergarten and first grade multiage classroom of 25 children in a charter school that just opened last fall in a high-need community in Illinois. We are the first Expeditionary Learning School in our city. Our philosophy is "children learn by doing and learning has no boundaries." Our mission is to give children real world practice of the skills they learn in the classroom. Generous and kind donations are what is needed in order to fulfill our mission- to give students hands on experiences of what they are learning. We don't just want to read about something- we want to do it!

As an Expeditionary Learning School, we teach 14 week "expeditions." This fall trimester we are studying animal habitats native to our city, with an emphasis on conservation and habitat preservation. Since our city is located on the edge of a great lake, aquatic habitats will be part of our investigation. Children will be working closely with our local aquarium and their experts to learn elements of an aquatic habitat, and how the habitats are created and maintained. Our first year we launched a water expedition that the children enjoyed so much- we'd like to extend their passion and knowledge of water to water habitats- what is living there and how do we conserve what is there.

I want each table team of children to be in charge of an aquatic habitat. The children will be responsible for cleaning and maintaining a healthy habitat. They will ensure animals in the habitat have food, shelter, and clean space. The resources needed for this project are basic freshwater aquarium set up tools- aquarium tanks for each table team, gravel, aquatic plants, cleaning supplies, and animal specimens. My children will get a hands on experience and opportunity to extend the knowledge received from aquarium experts, and exercise their knowledge of maintaining a healthy animal habitat.

You will make it possible for my students to actively practice what they learn throughout the animal habitat expedition everyday. Without your donation, my children would just sit and watch others demonstrate. Your donation can put a sense responsibility and self-motivation into the hearts of my students.
