Greetings!
I am a 10th Grade English teacher at a public high school in North Carolina. In English II (10th Grade English) we study world literature and world cultures by reading various works such as The Epic of Gilgamesh, The Iliad, Night, Oedipus Rex, etc.
Although our classroom is filled with creative projects, lively discussions, and great students, we have a slight problem. Currently, when we try to connect our laptop and projector to the Internet, we must run a long cable across the length of the classroom to the back of the room where the Internet connection is. The students must avoid the cable, and each day we must wrap the cable back up and disconnect it so that the floors may be cleaned. We also have 30 Palm Pilots to use in the class. This is amazing technology, but currently we are limited to basic word processing tasks because we do not have wireless access in the classroom.
A simple solution would be to install a wireless router so that both the laptop and the palm pilots (equipped with Blue Tooth) could function without extensive cords running throughout the classroom. This would allow students to have direct access to information. For instance, while reading The Epic of Gilgamesh, a student asked what the age was of the oldest person on the earth. I later Googled the information and told them, but it would be fantastic to simply turn on the projector and laptop (used every day in class) to research this information as a class. It would also be great to use our palm pilots to connect to the web as "mini research computer labs." This would be such a great asset because our computer labs are booked for a month due to overcrowding and limited resources.
As of now, there are many times when the students would benefit from having instant access to the computer, but because we are short on time, we don't break out the cable and connect everything to the Internet. Please help us create a wireless wonderlab in our classroom!
Thank you!
