it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
About My Students
My students are highly motivated and enthusiastic learners who LOVE using technology! I remember going down to the computer lab with my class when I was a kid to play Oregon Trail, and it was always a treat, something I looked forward to all week. However, my students are digital natives. Technology isn't a "treat" to them; rather, it is an integral part of their daily lives. It is important that the 21st-Century meet their needs!
My students are incredible. They want to research, write, and present their work in a variety of exciting new ways. This requires access to technology tools, like Chromebooks. I want to allow my students the choice to create movies, websites, podcasts, and other digital creations to express their learning. In a project-based learning environment, student-centered instruction is best achieved when equitable access to technology is provided.
Our current class set of chromebooks is wonderful, but the track pads are dying and sticking, making it difficult to create graphic designs, to navigate easily, and use other project-based tools. Several students have suggested we get a set of wireless mice! I think this is a great idea, and so they've started up this project!
My students will be able to use these wireless mice to better access technology tools such as Google Drawing and Coding programs. With the mice, they have more freedom and flexibility, making their ability to create graphics or utilize programs that develop essential 21st Century technology skills much easier.
These wireless mice will help as students collaborate on their technology projects. Teamwork is a vital skill for their future careers, and the wireless mice will make their tasks less frustrating and more enjoyable. They will be able to focus on the learning and collaboration rather than technology issues!
In Their Own Words
We (Michael, Katie, and Jonas) want to get a class set of wireless mice because our class chromebooks are getting old and the trackpads are sticky. A group of us were making graphic novels for our choice project recently and it was really hard to move the cursor around and we kept dropping our lines. I (Michael) was drawing the background for my comic book in Google Draw and I kept dropping the line because my mouse was sticky. With this project we will be able to do better work.
One thing we plan to do is take REALLY good care of the wireless mice. We know there are small parts on them that plug into the computers and we have to be very careful with them. So it will be our class job to take care of the mice and check that none of the parts are missing everyday. Also to fund the project we are going to advertise it to our relatives and explain why we think it is a good donation for them to make.
This project will solve the challenge of our sticky chromebook trackpads that are getting old. Instead of buying whole new chromebooks which is too expensive, we can solve the problem with an $8 wireless mouse! The good bonus is that it will be more fun and easier to use them!
