Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have been diagnosed with various forms of disabilities, but their primary disability includes autism and speech impairments.
My students have extreme difficulties and deficits in the areas of language and social functioning, and they exhibit repetitive behaviors, interests, or activities and differences in sensory input.
Although each of my students exhibits sensory input in their own unique way, through effective strategies, their unique needs will be addressed to enable them to be able to learn. One of these strategies is through the implementation of a sensory approach and social skills activities.
My Project
The inability for most of my students to communicate has a significant impact on their quality of life, educational access, and development of their social skills and relationships. The frustration of not being able to communicate often leads to negative behavior challenges in the classroom. The Lightning USB cables will be used to charge my students' iPads and the CD player will enable my students to produce verbal thoughts and words as they will use technology as a voice output device to speak for them and help them express themselves more fluently. The headphones will eliminate noise and self-manage student behavior.
