Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our Title I school is located in an urban neighborhood made up mostly of apartments, outside of downtown Los Angeles. The school serves kindergartners through eighth graders.
My students are bright, energetic, and inquisitive learners.
Reading, art, and physical education are some of their favorite subjects. They are all of Hispanic descent and many speak Spanish at home with their families.
I try to give the students opportunities and experiences so they can see possibilities for their futures.
My Project
Our students get three weeks off for winter break. This is a long time to be out of school. I want my students find the joy of reading for pleasure during this winter break. Therefore, I am planning a winter reading challenge for my students. Students who read the most, create projects based on their books, and send me pictures of them reading will receive their choice of books as prizes.
The books in this project are books my students have requested such as "The Amulet" and books by author Mo Willems.
