My Students

It might be hard to imagine but my special education students have so much in common with Edison; they understand what it means to persevere in the face of failure and constantly stay positive.

I have the privilege of working with kids who come to me every day knowing they’re going work, they’re going to stumble, but they’re going to learn.

They do it with a smile on their face because eventually they get their “light bulb” moment. The moment when their faces light up with the pride of understanding and success, it’s amazing to see. My Edisons come from diverse and varied backgrounds, but despite these challenges, they don’t fail. They find 10,000 ways to learn.

My Project

Winter is going strong in Chicago and my students need fun, educational games to keep them entertained while stuck indoors. My special education students would love the opportunity to get away from their computer screens and engage in games that challenge their minds while still having fun.

Recess is a time for my students to get a break from the long school day and practice important social skills, like turn taking and team work.

The perfect way to accomplish this, while sneaking in some learning, is by providing my students with games like Bananagrams, Code & Go, and Charades. These games can help them practice spelling, computer coding, and teamwork while having a great time.
