This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students love to learn about ways to improve our environment in the School Garden. We are currently dealing with soil compaction in our school garden. Last school year, we were only able to dig a few inches before reaching the soil compaction layer! My students need books such as Jump Into Science: Dirt and Soil Science to learn about the importance of healthy soil to our school garden. Then, they will use the gardening gloves and hand tillers to loosen the top layer of our raised garden beds. We will compost and cover crop to aerate and improve the soil. This will help prepare our gardens for the upcoming winter!
