This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Everyday my students come into class eager and ready to learn. They are so excited to eat breakfast and begin their learning right from the start of the day! My kids are ambitious, positive and goal setting. They delight when they meet their goals, cheer on the other students when they meet their goals and offer help to the few who need it...they are compassionate.
My students courage and passion drive me to continue to teach and work to become a better teacher daily.
I teach at a Title I district in the Phoenix Metro area of Arizona where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Sometime days can be rough for these little ones, but my students still come to class and inspire me everyday.
Our theme this year is Star Wars because my students truly are Grand Master Jedis' of learning!
My Project
I teach in an inner-city school with high poverty students who have special needs, low achievement scores due to trauma in the home and the majority come to school as English Language Learners. Due to the lack of funding my students struggle and are in need of whiteboards, privacy folders and materials for small group reading comprehension. My students need a lot of practice in math computation and phonics word work. Whiteboards are perfect for these activities and whiteboards are useful for checking their understanding and giving immediate feedback. The whiteboards allow me to see exactly what they are doing, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work. Privacy folders are needed due to our small classrooms it is hard for students to avoid distractions and focus on their task (reading, math or writing). Small group individualized instruction in reading comprehension is detrimental to reading success.
Against all odds, my students have dreams and desires to be successful and attend college to make a difference.
My students have high expectations of themselves and their abilities, practicing on their own whiteboard will increase their confidence. They work hard and have built a community in our classroom that is high achieving, compassionate and caring. At times they need some privacy and being able to escape into a privacy folder will help them focus and complete their task more efficiently.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement. By having whiteboards, privacy folders and direct reading comprehension tools students will be able to practice their skills, avoid interruptions and focus on achieving their goals.
