My Project
I have found that the "trick" to getting kids to read is really just making sure they have access to books they enjoy. Our library both supports the curriculum and classroom lessons, but it also promotes pleasure reading -- something that students can only really experience when they have access to GOOD books.
Children read more when they have the opportunity to choose their own books. Fantasy stories are popular with many of my students, and the Wings of Fire books have been quite successful. I'd like to add in the missing and new volumes so that my students can enjoy more of the story! I've also requested replacement copies of other fantasy and adventure books that have been worn out (or even lost!) after heavy student use.
