Windows to the World: Exploring Cultures Through Stories
Help me give my students the power to become global citizens through a world map and a rich collection of diverse multicultural books.

My Project
Our second-grade classroom is made up of 26 bright and curious learners, each bringing their own unique cultures, languages, and backgrounds to our classroom community.
This project will provide us with a large world map and a diverse collection of multicultural books that will help us celebrate our differences, learn about one another, and better understand the world we live in.
Through powerful and beautifully written stories like Malala’s Magic Pencil, which teaches us about courage and the right to education, Mango, Abuela, and Me, which shows us the power of love and connection across language barriers, and Festival of Colors, which introduces us to the vibrant traditions of Holi and the importance of family and celebration, students will grow in empathy, cultural awareness, and appreciation for others.
We will use the world map daily, not just in social studies, but in reading, writing, and even science, connecting the locations in our stories to real places on the map. This visual connection will deepen our understanding and help us visualize where people come from, where events take place, and how our world is wonderfully interconnected.
This project supports our school’s core values, ROCK (Resilient, Organized, Cooperative, Kind), as we become stronger, more thoughtful global citizens. Your support will help open windows to the world for our students, empowering them to see the beauty of diversity and the strength that comes from understanding and kindness.
