My Project

Books as windows allow children to view other cultures and build connections with knowledge. And sliding glass doors allow children to step into another's perspective. The picture books requested for my project will allow my students to build connections with each other and deepen their empathy for one another as they gain knowledge.

This collection of picture books will open my students' eyes, minds, and hearts to people of different genders, races, religions, abilities, etc.

Second graders are learning to care deeply about fairness, justice, and each other. In today's world, being able to have empathy for others is crucial for creating peaceful and respectful relationships. One of the most effective ways to build empathy in young children is by reading and discussing picture books that function as windows, mirrors, and sliding glass doors.
