My Students

Ack! You are in the middle of a book series or TV series and one part is missing. We all know that feeling, you are following along with the story and then a piece is missing. Kids are not happy when they do not have the "next" pieces.

My third graders are kids who love to read.

They immerse themselves in books. Most of my students started kindergarten learning English and learning about school. They are truly amazing in what they have accomplished in just three or so years in school. My students are the face of the United States of America. One thing that all of my students have in common is their zest for learning. They are so wonderful in that they don't see the differences between themselves. Mutual acceptance abounds at our school. A large percentage of these wonderful students come to school to learn in English. They then go home and speak another language. Think about the responsibility of having to work on homework in English and in school, then go home and communicate with parent

My Project

These Dork Diaries and Wimpy Kid books will quickly circulate around the classroom. Students love to read about funny things that happen to others at school. The giggles will abound as students spend time reading these books. It is truly a wonderful experience to watch students devour these chapter books. Often times, two or more students will read the same book and then they compete with each other to see how fast they can read the book. An added bonus is then my students can use the computers or other technology and take an Accelerated Reader test to check their comprehension. Once one book is finished the next one will be sought out.

These sets of books will be greatly welcomed into the classroom and will become some of the "popular" kids.

Help my students make new friends with these literary characters. It will be cool to be a "dork" or a "wimpy kid."
