This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

School plays have a special place in childrens' memories. If we receive this workshop, 75 students will have the experience of putting on a quality production of Willy Wonka under the guidance of an excellent workshop leader.

I teach in a K-8th grade public school in a high poverty community in New Jersey.

My administration is very supportive of my music program but unfortunately, we do not have a budget for any extracurricular musical activities. This is particularly sad because many of my students show a tremendous talent and enthusiasm for performing arts.

My Project

Last year, I applied through DonorsChoose.org for this same workshop in order to put on a production of Cinderella. Thanks to the generosity of many donors, we received the funding and the production was an unprecedented success that brought the community together. If we receive funding for the Willy Wonka workshop, 75 more students will experience the unadulterated joy of being in a school play. Akie Bermiss is a joy to work with and the students both love and respond well to his direction. I know they would cherish the memory of a production of Willy Wonka with him.

75 students who have access to very little will get to participate in an exciting workshop that culminates in a fun, inspiring production if this project gets funded.
