I teach all day Kindergarten in a high-need community. My classroom is hands- and brains-on, and we love to learn from one another and through music. We love to sing and dance. My goal is to inspire my students to believe in themselves and become lifelong learners.
Research shows that one of the greatest things that can be done to develop literacy skills in young children is reading aloud to them. Unfortunately, many of my students do not come to school with this experience. Many of the families have little access to books. For this reason, nearly 50% of my students are rarely read to outside of school. Whenever we have volunteers in the classroom, my students always want them to sit and read with them.
I would like to use these two iPod Nanos as a listening center. Students would be able to listen to stories while holding the book and looking at the words and pictures each day. Not only would the students be excited about the opportunity to listen to stories, but the technology of the iPods would keep them engaged.
Your donation would make it possible for my students to develop the skills necessary to succeed in reading and writing. You would help 100% of my students to have the best possible beginning. Your donation will make them feel valuable, and it will give my students the experience they so desperately need!
