My Students
I am a special education teacher in a Title I, self-contained elementary school located in New York City. I teach Kindergarten students diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and other various learning disabilities. Students in my classroom have poor fine and gross motor skills and limited language. They are visual, kinesthetic learners and require hands-on materials and technology to aid them in reaching their individual goals.
We are a center-based, hands-on classroom that provides students with exciting and interesting opportunities to practice, enrich, and enhance their learning all while encouraging independence and provide students with an abundance of opportunities and supports to achieve success at their own level.
My Project
In our classroom, my students take charge of their learning! During each ELA and math lesson, students are working in art, science, technology, math, reading and writing centers, on their individual learning goals! While this is a wonderful opportunity to individualize work for each student, it is a lot of work for the teacher to find and create appropriate materials and individual resources needed for each students learning goals.
