Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a distance teacher of third and fourth grade students. My students will be distance learning due to medical reasons. . In addition to our regular curriculum, I want them to have access to materials to challenge their creativity, utilizing logic, spatial planning and scientific method. Students are naturally curious. Open-ended projects as well as explaining their work lead to increased interest and participation. Students in buildings have these opportunities - I want these distance learners to have the same opportunity.
Thrive not survive!
Hands-on gravity experiments captivate student interests and promotes school involvement. Student-led learning, explaining your work and teaching others is a large part of our district curriculum. This project will definitely enhance my students' learning and help fulfill our district curriculum goals..
My students have bonded as a group. They encourage each other and share ideas. They work hard learning via computer Zoom but love hands-on activities. Having their own kit at home will aid their learning, especially by keeping their attention.
My Project
These kits will be used to promote students natural curiosity. In addition to challenges that are provided, students will be encouraged to create their explaining their work and writing about it. We talk about how explaining and learning why something happens activates more brain activity - this would supplement our learning.
Employers look for curious, persistent, and flexible thinkers.
These open-ended kits will give students this opportunity. The key is open-ended, allowing for higher level skills to be used. My students are learning at home due to COVID. They need this opportunity to have materials in front of them that they can manipulate instead of being locked to a computer screen all day. The use of common materials also allows for interaction (via Zoom) for students. We need a magnetic building sticks blocks STEM toy.
