My Students
"We lose ourselves in books. We find ourselves there too."
Books can teach students about themselves and others by taking them places they've never been before. A classroom full of books provides opportunities for young readers to become WILD about reading!
My students are 6th graders, who come from diverse backgrounds, reading levels, and interests.
My school has parents who are involved and are supportive of their children in school. I am responsible for providing a wide variety of books for 120+ students.
My Project
My goal is to make my students lifelong readers! My students need a wide variety of books for our classroom library! I want to instill in them a love of reading. In order to make reading real life and authentic, I must provide them with a choice in what they read and offer them a wide variety of genres. I envision my students having a reading "voice" and leaving my classroom reading with passion.
This is my first year teaching 6th grade.
I taught 4th grade for six years and had to discard and/or give away many books that were either damaged or inappropriate for 6th graders. In order for students to leave my class with a love of reading, they need books at their fingertips to enjoy. I hope to provide them with as many titles as possible to give them the freedom to become wild readers!
