This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Kindergarten is often the first experience in school for my students. They are precocious, curious and creative. Many of them have already been labeled "at-risk" because of the obstacles they have faced in their past. Our school is located in an area of low economic development, and my students just don't have the same access to resources that many other students do.

We want our students to develop many passions in school.

We want to teach the whole child. Our students need to have multiple experiences each day to apply their creativity in different ways. They are learning to be readers, mathematicians and artists. You may help inspire them with skills that will help them throughout their academic career!

My Project

Every day my students work with me in small groups while the rest of the class works in workstations. In Kindergarten we are working on laying the foundation for reading skills. We are learning the letters, sounds and sight words.

Our students need hands-on practice to learn how to read.

The workstation materials like peg number boards, CVC workstation and syllable counting center are ways students can practice the skills they are learning with a partner. Not only is this a way for them to learn these new skills-but it is allowing them to do it in a fun way. We are also asking for various spelling puzzles for them to complete in their groups.

We want learning to be exciting for our students. If the students can learn to read in Kindergarten, it sets them up for success throughout their academic career.
