My Project
Third grade is such an important age for fostering a love of reading. As we come to the end of the school year, I want to try to incorporate novel study that relates to both our literacy standards and our science & social studies standards.
The Wild Robot is a gripping tale that combines fantasy and science fiction to hold the attention of young readers.
It tells the story of a robot who washes ashore on an inhabited island after a shipwreck and has to learn how to survive by observing and befriending the animals that live there. This book fits perfectly with our first quarter science standards.
One of the themes of this book is friendship, which is such an important theme for students to continue to learn about. Students come from a variety of backgrounds, much like the characters on the island, but we will all come together in a beautiful way this school year, just like the characters in the book
More than a third of students from low‑income households
