This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Some of my best memories from fourth grade came from our class read-alouds. Books like "Because of Winn-Dixie," "Maniac Magee," and "Holes" shaped my experience as a learner and sparked a lifelong love of reading. Now, as a teacher, I want to create that same kind of magic for my students.
I’m requesting a class set of "The Wild Robot" by Peter Brown to bring a shared reading experience to my fourth-grade classroom.
This novel will help students build comprehension and vocabulary skills while analyzing character development, theme, setting, author’s craft, and more—all in a way that even my most reluctant readers can connect with.
"The Wild Robot" is the perfect blend of academic rigor and meaningful storytelling. With its short chapters and relatable characters, it’s both accessible and engaging. Students will make inferences, have rich discussions about identity and belonging, and follow Roz’s powerful journey of survival and transformation. The story also opens doors for cross-curricular connections in writing, STEM, and social-emotional learning.
My goal for this project is to give students meaningful, engaging opportunities to practice key literacy skills while also helping them discover the joy of getting lost in a great book.
Thank you for reading about our classroom project.
